Improving the P-51D Mustang engine

The Mustang's engine in the Hasegawa kit isn't their most glorious moment. It is pretty basic.

So tonight I am scratchbuilding and improving.

I have drilled out the solid exhausts - a massive improvement for 10 minutes work.

Before drilling: solid, unrealistic exhausts.

After drilling out the exhausts.

And I have begun detailing the engine's upper surface, which is where the engine will be most visible.

Starting to add various gubbins and details to the top surface.

It's not rocket science, and I'm not 100% a stickler for accuracy, but some representative "looks like feels like" detail if what I love. Have at me, rivet-counters!

Now on to airbrushing next.

Cheers,

Dave
