I've had enough discussing competitions and judging.
I feel like this has been going in three directions at once:
- 60% of my audience agrees with me.
- 10% thinks it's just sour grapes.
- 30% is bored of the whole thing.
I also think I'm pissing off a sizeable chunk of the Australian modelling community, and that's not what I set out to do at all. That's not what a bloody hobby is supposed to be about (none of us is curing cancer here, FFS).
If I have pissed you off, or slagged off one of your models, or seemed ungrateful of all the unpaid volunteer work you do, then I apologise. While I do still unapologetically 100% stand by my comments that feedback should be available at the Expo venue for self-improvement purposes, I'm not here to be an asshole and tear holes in other people's efforts. We've all encountered that kind of alpha male asshole in modelling circles before, and that's not what I set out to do or the sort of behaviour I want to encourage.
At this stage I'm thinking I'll try to make it to volunteer as a judge next year, to get the perspective from the other side of the process.
I've had a couple of people give me valuable feedback and actual concrete suggestions, and to those people I say a very sincere thank you - you know who you are.
Anyway, I'm moving on. I'm still open to discuss this whole issue of course, so if you want to please get in touch, but I'm not going to publicly keep tilting at windmills.
